SOUTHERN CIRCUIT - PENGUINS, GLACIERS AND ESTANCIAS
At the far edge of the Western Hemisphere lies some of the planet’s most extreme and stunning landscapes. The beauty will stop you in your tracks and will refresh your spirit. When the Patagonia wind blows, your sense of adventure will soar. The coastal gems on the Beagle Channel, and the charming people of Ushuaia show that life on Tierra del Fuego, the gateway to Antarctica, is abundant. Tucked along the edge of the Andes are some of the world’s most accessible and outstanding glaciers, including the dazzling Perito Moreno Glacier and the imposing Viedma Glacier. We will also visit the infamous peaks of Cerro Torre and Mount FitzRoy.

Itinerary:
Day 1 –
Arrival in Ushuaia, Argentina. Dinner in this charming maritime city.

Day 2 –
Today we follow Darwin’s trail on the Beagle Channel. We’ll venture out on the Beagle Channel on a quest for penguins, sea lions, birdlife and the dramatic horizons at the lighthouses protecting the channel. In the afternoon we visit Estancia Harberton, where we’ll have tea in the oldest building on Tierra del Fuego.

Day 3 –
We board a train bound for Tierra del Fuego National Park where we’ll enjoy easy walks through the coastal forests. Rich in flora and fauna, this pristine park also offers boat trips.

Day 4 –
Activity day: you choose between fishing some of the world’s greatest rivers, hiking in the National Park and visiting some the End of the World museums.

Day 5 –
Today we fly north to El Calafate, the Glacier Capital, and enjoy dinner at a traditional Estancia.

Day 6 –
Our visit to the Perito Moreno Glacier will be unforgettable. We’ll soak it in from land, water, and in the afternoon, we head out for a walk on the glacier itself.

Day 7 –
The drive north to the rustic mountain village of El Chaltén, the hiking capital of Argentina, takes in some truly stunning landscape. We’ll settle in to our cozy mountain inn, where the bistro offers some of the best food found in Argentina.

Day 8 –
Activity day: choose between an amazing (and moderate) hike to Laguna Torre for close-up views of these famous FitzRoy and Cerro Torre peaks, horseback riding through the local valleys, or a visit the homestead at Estancia Madsen, the first settlement in the area.

Day 9 –
We head back out on the water – this time to Lake Viedma to visit Viedma Glacier, which grinds out from below Cerro FitzRoy. The highlight will be our walk onto the glacier.

Day 10 –
We leave El Chaltén and head to El Calafate for an afternoon flight to Buenos Aires. |
