VINEYARDS OF MENDOZA: MALBEC AMONGST THE MOUNTAINS

Imagine an undiscovered Napa, an unexplored Tuscany – where vineyards, olive groves and tiny villages dot the landscape, tucked up against the tallest mountain in the Americas. This is Mendoza.

Our itinerary in the Mendoza area is one of a kind. We have scouted the area and found what we think is the most enchanting way to visit this charming area. Some of the most friendly people you’ll meet anywhere will open their doors, and their hearts, to share the vineyards, olive groves, and fabulous food that is making them famous around the world.

We’ll stay at a truly remarkable boutique inn, amongst centuries-old Malbec vines. We have chosen a thoughtful selection of bodegas or vineyards to visit, from large and industrial to tiny and specialized. At each we’ll taste and tour. We’ll combine a well-balanced selection of local vineyards with time to relax in the shade by the pool, and we’ll take you to some of Mendoza’s most critically-acclaimed restaurants.

Itinerary:

Day 1-
Flight Buenos Aires to Mendoza. We’ll arrive at our inn in time for a light Argentine-style dinner and a chance to sample some of the house wines at our boutique inn. We’ll relax under the stars, perhaps take an evening dip, stroll the gardens and enjoy a warm summer’s night sleep.

Day 2-
Our first day touring the vineyards narrows in on the Agrelo area. In the morning we begin with a visit to one of the largest and most influential vineyards in the country. Next, we stop by to say hi to a friend who’ll take us out to taste grapes off the vine and then wines right from the barrels, and really get a hands-on learning and tasting experience. Lunch will have us dining al fresco amongst the gardens at a traditional local winery. After lunch, we’ll make one more stop at a little-known but highly-praised boutique family winery. After returning to our inn, we’ll take time for a siesta before heading to the celebrated 1884 Restaurante, run by one of Argentina’s top chefs, Bariloche-raised Francis Mallman.

Day 3 -
We’ll head back out to the vineyards, this time south of Mendoza city in the remote and stunning Valle de Uco area. First stop will be an impressive and export-oriented vineyard. We’ll then visit one of the hot new Boudeaux-owned bodegas in Vista Flores, the most exciting area of all Mendoza for wine aficionados and celebrities alike. Lunch will be like that of Day 2 – a typical asado served outside, traditional and leisurely. For dinner, we can either dine in the quaint village of Chacras de Corea, a walking distance from our inn, or head back into the charming cobbled streets of downtown Mendoza.

Day 4 -
We’ll head away from the vineyards up into the high Andes for glimpses of some of the tallest mountains on the hemisphers and a glimpse of Mt Aconcagua, “the rooftop of the Americas”. We’ll keep an eye out for the majestic, mighty condors in the more blue skies above. Depending on return flights home, in the evening we fly back to Buenos Aires.
